I use Autolite Platinum Pro double platinum and the car fires great all the time. For the LT4 the plug is APP106 (not sure about the LT1) check at http://www.autolite.com
Hello,
Use the stock G.M. plugs, mine lasted 106,000 miles before the opti-spark and plug wires and plugs were changed. Do not regap used LT1 G.M. plugs after they have been used as they will break.
Best regards, Louis :chevy :seeya
It is well known that the platinum pucks fell off the AC plugs that came in the LT1 and LT5 motors. I had 5 of the orginal plugs have pucks fall off.
The problem with the pucks falling off is they sometimes get caught in the rings and put a vertical score mark on the cylinder.
One of the ZR1 sites has an article on this, but I no longer have the URL.

The plugs in my 95 had 2 missing pucks with only 24,000 miles on the motor. My GS had 5 of the 8 pucks missing with 28,000 miles. I would never use the factory plugs, not even in my lawnmower!!!
Glock'94, you'd be a hero if you made a video of changing the plugs in less than an hour and posted it on the forum.
Whaddayasay?
hehe... I don't have a video camera :(. My digital does 30 second video's but that's it lol. I don't want to do 120 30 second video's of me changing the plugs!  :jester
The stock plugs are worse than junk in my experience. At just under 30,000 miles, 5 out of eight of mine were missing the puck. Being dense, I replaced them with a new set of stock plugs at over $5 per plug, pulled them after another 2000 miles to find two out of eight already missing the puck. I heard Motorcraft double plat's have the same problem. I would just avoid plats all together.
:smash: Yeah, a video'd be asking a lot. Guess I was just hoping to see some of those Hooters girls hanging around. :D
If you were to write up a blurb on what combination of tools you use for each plug and submit it to the tech tips section, you'd still be a hero. :yesnod:
Until then, when we all think of changing plugs, we all wanna :U.
The plugs aren't that bad to change when you have headers, and a swivel head socket. It took me about 1.5 hours to take them out, clean them, and reinstall them.
Since I put the AFR heads on my LT1 (30000 miles ago), I've been using the AutoLite double platinum plugs, and I have had no problems with the platinum pucks falling off.
Tom,
I had great luck with the stock plugs in my 1994 LT1, and I have 57,000 miles on my LT4 1996 Vette with no problems, I turned 13.20 @110.2 MPH at the Texas Motor Plex last month (traction limited, needs slicks) What plugs would you use for my LT4 Vette and my 1994 LT1 Trans Am as I do not want to have a puck hurt the motor??? I had no idea that there was a problem with stock G.M. plugs. The Trans Am is a real bear to change the plugs compaired to my vette so I want do do this every year. I guess I was lucky as my T.A. was running great until the opti-spark went bad at over 100,000 miles.
Thanks for the information. :chevy :seeya
