I bought my 94 three years ago and have put on roughly 30k as a normal driver. It came with a key fob that did not work I bought a battery and it worked fine. However it would suck up new batteries within a month requiring a new one but as far as operations go no problem. Until... I was driving on the interstate and all the sudden my doors locked and unlocked numerous times and the hatch popped open (while doing about 70mph on the interstate) which was not fun. Also the Pass key light came on along with for some reason my ABS service light. I pulled off and shut my hatch of course, turned the car off and restarted it, and all seemed fine all lights are off but for the past year or so the fob will not do anything and the system will not respond to programing as I spent $150 on a new fob thinking it was the problem. It will not react to programing or new batteries and the PKE light will not come on at all even at ACC point when starting. I even checked the PKE service bulb to see if it blew. I am at a loss and not sure where to go. I want it to work as I belive in ensuring the car is up to standards. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to make sure I got all the information up here (and then some any and all help is always appreciated.
Does anyone have any information or someone can help with this. Has anyone seen any type of electrical issue like the one I experienced the one and only time? Or did I post this in the wrong category? Thanks again

This is a common problem with PKE'S. Your in the right place. I just wish I had the answer for ya.
possibly a problem with the CCM? The only reason i say this is because you said the car did not react to programming the PKE. If you have a FSM, I believe there is a procedure to run a diagnostic test in order to see if there is malfunctioning with the CCM and it's inputs.
Although I'm not an expert, mine (96) did something similar. The hood opened twice. Once in the driveway and one in the garage overnight. Then the FOB/PKE just stopped working. I tried all the 'fixes' but none worked. The PKE light was gone from the DIC. Once that happens it's not responding. Like others have posted, the thought is the PKE control module is gone bad. It's back behind the center dash vent. However, in my case it appears to have a better ending (I pray)......I left it alone for about 2 weeks and then it just came back!
Did talk to Gordon Kilibrew and he said I probably hit a button on the FOB somehow and caused the system to go into manual mode or asleep. These are covered in the FSM. So mine is back and working and I'm leaving it alone. Do a search here and check the FSM. If it's not the module or FOB battery, it'll wake up. You can also pull codes.
I had the same issue and thought mine was the PKE for sure. I dont carry the FOBs anymore and I pulled the PKE fuse months ago and was going to spend some time troubleshooting this winter.
THEN, my hatch pops open on the way home yesterday?!?!? WTF?!?!? no fuse, no FOBs and it still pops?

Well, your hatch does have an electric powered solenoid that can be operated without even having a PKE system in your car.
The button under your console lid and at the back of the drivers door (passenger door also on some years), are not connected to the PKE system at all.
Pulling the PKE fuse will have no effect on your hatch opening.
the issue the OP is having is the same one I had and is related to the PKE. The door locks cycle and the hatch pops then the DIC light lights up.
I am aware of that. But your statement that I quoted made it sound like your hatch shouldn't have popped since you didn't have the FOB with you and the fuse had been pulled.

I pointed out that it was indeed possible for the hatch to do exactly what it did.
