thas a bit too hot, anything over 235 is too much
I hope youre running synthetic oil, you may need to do a few things to keep that temp down:
1. remove the radiator and clean the junk off the front (it will be caked on there)
2. get a 160 thermostat, drain and refill radiator
3. get a chip from someone that will turn your fans on earlier
Whoaa ....that is hot!!
I don't know, but my oil never got hotter tha 219 and my water never than 235 ...this was with the 180 thermostat. I just put a new radiator in today and while i was at it I also threw in the 160 hypertech PowerStat I had laying around. Now she runs with the coolant at 174 to 180 and the oil 180 to 190.....just where I want if....
I think you should check why your egine gets this hot....I would not be comfortable with that kind of temps...
Alex, how was the quality of that radiator? Mine appeared identical to the stock unit.
The previous owner on mine used Dino, I just did 1 change with dino to flush out the crap and the next change will be with engine flush (Amsoil) and 10/30 Amsoil, but my dino oil runs at 215 oil max, 232 coolant max. This is with the stock 195 stat. Im waiting till I can get someone to burn me a chip to turn on my fans at 180 before I change out the stat.
VetteNoob,
I bought the radiatore form http://www.radiator.com It was $157 plus $9 for overnight (!) shipping. The radiator was packed excellent and the fit and finish was excellent too. it dropped right into place of the old one. the only thing I noticed was that the core on the old radiator was 1 3/8" thick and the replacement was only 1" thick. the new unit seemed to have a better core thoughmore and finer webbing....anyway, she runs nice and cool now...... :D
at 240 either coolant or oil, I pull over and shut her off... period. I hit 242 once and did that. It was like 105 outside and I was caught in traffic really bad and the fans just didn't work well enough to keep it cool.
