I checked and havent seen any real in depth threads about tires in the C4 department. It always seem to be people comparing 315 goodyears to sumitomos over and over again. Street, all season, drag radials, slicks, all reviews are welcome. The c5 and c6 sections seem to have them pop up from time to time. Hopefully im not stepping on any toes by creating this. If this helps just one person then this thread has done its job. So without further delay, let the opinions begin.
Firestone Firehawk Wideovals: I've had these 285's on my rear twice now. I must say they arnt the cheapest, arnt the best, but I think price wise they are close to the best bang for the buck tires ive seen. The tread blocks are pretty hefty and the pattern is almost the exact same as nitto 555's. My buddy has 285 nittos on his mustang and they do seem to be a tad thinner footprint then mine, so I'd say the Wideovals run about average tire width. I dont think they look quite as big as the pictures of 285 gs-d3's I've seen but they are still substantial. Overall a great tire if your looking for something to put on for most of the year. Ive got them as cheap as $139 for a rear tire. However, they apparently just stopped making them. Replacing them with a Wideoval Indy 500. Completely different pattern, and it looks quite odd. But supposedly it is both better in water, and more aggressive.
Anybody try Continental Extreme contact DW? Or the SportContact 3? The 3 is supposedly the more aggressive tire but the DW seems to be rated better in everything. Looking for a new front set.

Summito HTR-Z 275 (all 4 on 17" rims)
Good - very grippy
Bad - don't seem to last very long, I get a year plus out of a set. Its probably because they see 1K track miles to every 3k of road miles
I love these, they are inexpensive and only about 10 sec slower than Hoosier R6 at Road Atl. and at 1/3 the price they are worth it for HPDE weekends.
Hoosier R6 275 (all 4 on 18" rims)
Good - Very, very grippy
Bad - Do NOT leave the pit if the track is wet
Takes a couple laps to get them warm and working. I'm a slow guy and haven't found the ragged edge of these yet. $$$
I bought some FIERCE brand tires (made by Kelly Springfield), 275/40/17 all the way around. I bought them w/the primary criteria being cost, at $110 each. They STICK. Dead hook at anything under 4k clutch drop, and grip in turns something...fierce.
Replaced them w/C5 Z06 wheels, so 275/40/17 front and 285/35/18 rears that are Yokohama AVS Sports. They wander way worse, they are average loudness, and they have no grip. I can "light 'em up" when ever I want, slide the *** out, etc. They don't inspire confidence on the track at all. AVS Sports are garbage.
I just installed Michelin PS2s on my '92. I was running BFG KDs for competition, but wanted a high quality highway tire with good wet capability. All the tires balance with less than 1 ounce. The same wheels with the original GSCs had up to 3.5 ounces. So far, so good.
I have staggered Sumi's in 275/315. My fronts last much longer than the rears. Grip is ok, but I think I need more.
Good: Cheap, come in 315s, drive-able in the rain
Bad: Too quiet (or my exhaust is too loud) but I can't hear them screaming for traction even though my rear end will be sliding back and forth and I like to be able to hear the tires talk a bit, don't last that long

Good: They are very "grippy" (seems to be the technical term for the thread ) in both dry and wet conditions. Dry they put me 1 sec behind modifed Corvettes running R-comp tires at Gingerman raceway winner of that class was +6 ahead of my best though. I wasnt competing just comparing times). They amazed me more in the wet. Very stable and "grippy" even in deep water. They have a very good street life and are not noisy.
Bad: The way the tread blocks are they wear oddly in the dry at tracks, which could contribute to some loss of overall grip. They are kinda pricey too, but seem to last long.
I put the Toyo Proxes 4 (275-40-17) on my 89 and have been more than pleased with them. They have excellent tread life and stick pretty well. I found them for about $125 each on line. They have a good looking tread design and run quiet.
I had Firestone Firehawks on my car, and they served me well. I just replaced them recently with Cooper Zeon 2XS, and I'm very pleased so far. Great grip in the rain, and nice ride. They seemed to be a good bit wider than the Firestones as well.
Current Tire is ths Kumho SPT's. After 2 auto-x events they aren'tbad, but lack the telepathic feel I've had with ToyoR1R's and Bridgestone RE-01's. Obviously not the same style of tire as the others, but for $240 for the pair I am not unpleased. They seem to wear like iron so I'll have plenty of time to decide if I like them or not.
I have run GSD3'S all around and they do everything well and are pricey.I really liked the Kumho Ecsta mx(non runflat) for dry grip but they seem to be hard to find.I have Nitto NT05(street version) ON THE BACK IN 275/40/18 and they hook alot better than the GSD3 on dry pavement.I don't drive it in the rain so that doesent matter to me.
I currently have Nitto 555s on all 4, however I think they stopped making them because I cant find them anywhere.. Its about time for the fronts and I was looking at falkens. Anyone have expierence with either the Falken Ziex ZE-512? or the Falken FK 452? They are both about $130-140. I DD my vette so it sees all seasons.
I just put Sumitomo HTRZ 2 tires on my 89 about 2 weeks ago. The price was great 275-40-17s were $97.00 each and the 245-45-17s were $85.00 each at Tire Rack. They do handle good and the noise is very low, nice tread design also. I bought these because Nutz4C4 (Mike) liked them and has them on his car, he has 15,000 miles on his and they looked almost new.A lot of the guys on here say this is one of the (Best bang for your buck) tires .....WW
I am getting new tires and wheels for my 95. I want something bigger and wider in the rear than the 285's. C4,C5 or C6 chrome wheels any Ideas? What tires are larger and wider the 285's,the 275 17" or the 18", or the 315's

I have the Falken 451 and love them. Quiet and handle well. However they are a summer tire.

I run the c5 rear(275/40/18) and the c4 front(255/45/17)on c5 wagon wheels.Short of buying a larger rim and paying big bucks for 315's or Z06 rear 295/35/18 you don't have much choice.
