Hi Guys,
I just got my J55 calipers, abutment brackets and DRM adapters for the 84 and I'm a little lost. I don't see what "attaches" the calipers to anything. Can someone post or e-mail me pics of what J55 brakes look like when assembled please?

The biggest difference with the J55 is how they mount to the abutment bracket.
Make sure you load the calipers so the brake pad end with the notch is down.
Be sure the spring clips on the pad are ALL the way in the caliper, if not you will have a problem fitting them over the disk.
The closed end of the pad goes under the abutment bracket at the top.
At the bottom you slide a pin from front to back (or back to front) and secure it with an e clip.
Thanks! I was able to find a good side-shot and your explanation fills in the blanks. I had a feeling that was how they go together, but I don't have a set of pads yet to mock it all up.
It seems kind of spooky that an interference fit is basically all that keeps them together, but it obviously works.
I find it preferable to place the pin with the C-clip facing out. That way I can give it a visual check at tire changeover and if it works its' way out (happened to us a couple times) it won't hit a wheel spoke.
I have J55's on my '87 and they clear the factory 16 X 9.5" Enkei made wheels fine.
Has been well documented here in the past, the other factory wheels ( General ??? ) are a thicker rim section and won't clear

do i need an adapter plate to mount the J55 calipers on my 86? if so, where do i get it? i just bought a set of grand sport calipers. they came with the mounting bracket and the 13" rotors but i'm not sure, how to install these. i've been searching for solid answers for a few hours. this thread has got the closest to an answer, but i'm still not sure

In my case I'm using discontinued DRM (Doug Rippie Motorsports) adapters. Since they're discontinued, I'm considering having them duplicated.
I tookmine off an 84 with the factory bracket . I had to use a washer from my single piston caliper for clearance on the rotor. Still had to grind a good .040off the bracket near the rotor.
I have a 86
