Default Emmisions routing help please

Car-1987

I'm reinstalling some emmisions junk, and I've gotten stuck.

I have the air tube that runs between the headers installed, and the line that runs from that air-tube into whichever solenoid/relay/whatever it runs into. Now I'm stuck, where do I go after this?

Can someone please post a picture, or describe it to me, from this point, to the air pump.

Thanks a lot,
Canyon

Generally speaking the AIR pump output goes into the diverter. From the diverter there is an outlet to the cat and one that splits to each header.

Thanks, I've got most of it figured out.

Air-Pump to that relay lookin' thing(diverter)
Diverter down to air pickup or something
Diverter out to other relay/diverter thing
Other Diverter into air-tube assy.

The lower diverter has a vacuum line attached, where is vacuum supposed to be supplied for that? How necessary is that for opperation of the emmissions system?

The air tube into my cat has been deleted without possibility of reinstallation. What exactly does pumping air into the system do? Seems to be a non-effect, simply dilluting bad air with air that was in a different place, in effect not doing much...

I've got a "Check Engine" light now, must'v missed something in the assembly. Gonna have to pull the codes tomorrow.

The AIR pump is the cylinder with a pulley on it near the A/C.

There is an AIR tube to the Cat that passes down next to and fastened to the right header collector.

The "relay" near the A/C is the dirveter. I'm not sure where the vac line connevts, look for an open fitting on the plenum or TB.

Both lines to the exhaust headers have check valves to prevent feedback.

The AIR into the headers during warmup reduces HCs during warmup and shortens warmup and brings the O2 sensor up to temp quicker. During closed loop the AIR is diverted into the cat to help with emissions reduction.

The air line into the cat helps heat the cat and oxidize HCs & NOs. You may still pass but these emissions will be higher than with it in tact.

Since you have a single cat I assume it's an L98. In which case the AIR system won't trigger a code.
