Default LT1/700r4 Question

Hello,

Before I get bashed for not using this website's search engine, I want to say I have been looking for quite sometime for the answer to my question. Maybe I'm not smart enough to figure out how to find it in the archives, but here goes..............

I am putting an lt1 from an impala ss into my 1984 vette. I know the ls series is superior and all that, but this fell in my lap, & since my 84's crossfire engine has a huge hole in the block, I'm performing the surgery. I have the harness repinned and ready to go - I will send the ECM off to be reprogrammed (it came from the impala) but my question is this: If I'm deleting transmission activity (700r4) from the ECM and going with a Jegs/Summit kit for lock up, how do I get the speedo to work? I assume there is a speed sensor on the current setup with the CFI - I'm not very familiar with this type of swap and just need to make sure I can get the speedo to work.
Thanks,
Rich

If I were you, I would use the earlier speedosensor with your 700R4. Use the 2 gears to match your rearend. You might need to use your old rear housing, I can't remember. You will still be able to use your speedo. I don't believe the Summit lock up controller uses the speedo signal but I might be wrong. I am running a 4l60e in my 84 and needed to switch over the the later electronic pulse signal speedosensor for my TCI controller to work. My speedo is inop because the car is a strip only car. There is a box to convert this signal to the older signal but since my car is not on the street, I didn't need the speedo, just timeslips.

What year Impala?

The 700r4 changed twice of the life span of the LT1. Have you gone to an Impala website and asked this question?

You will need to get a LT1 radiator.

Thanks for the help, I need to clarify: LT1 is out of a 1995 Impala. I am reusing the 700r4 currently in my 84- it's been recently rebuilt.

So, will the speed sensor work with the digital speedometer WITHOUT going through the ECM?

Also, you mentioned needing an LT1 Radiator. I feel stupid for asking, but why wont my stock radiator in my 84 work?
Thanks Again- It's hard for me to ask about these things because I feel dumb as I have no experience with this type of swap. I appreciate everyone's patience with me.

.
Yes, the speed sensor goes to the dash. I swapped from a 4+3 to a 700r4 with an aftermarket computer and the speedo worked. It was only after the 4l60e swap that I lost the speedo. Your radiator will work fine. Just need to fit the right hoses.

Well, after talking to athe dude at LT1 swap.com, I'm kinda confused again. He suggested using a Dakota Digital speed senssor so the computer will know the car is moving. Has anyone had experience with this? Also, how would it hook up to accomodate the speedo in the dash and in the computer?
