My son's having a problem burning one of his spark plug boots, probably due to the slighty different plug angle of his Dart Pro 1s.
Years ago I read about ceramic boots that are rated at (IIRC) 2000 F but haven't been able to find them on-line. I believe it was Jacobs Electronics that sold them.
Anyone know of where I can find them or any other boots that can solve his problem?
As of now, he's running the stock exhaust manifolds on his 96 LT1.
Yea, I found them yesterday on TheHotRodCompany and my son already ordered a set. I should have posted that I'd found them to save you the trouble of searching. I apologize for not doing that.
May I ask why you need these type of things? I have SS headers, 1 3/4 and I never have needed anything like this?
And my engine is pushing a little over 500 hp and turns easily to 6500, with no issues?
yeah sounds more like some kind of mechanical or tune issue rather than the need for plug boots. I have a twin turbo motor with ALOT of heat in the car, more so than any n/a car and my plug boot protectors are working fantastic. I've melted plastic wire tubing up to a foot away from my car's manifolds/downpipes so its definately getting HOT.
He's in VA with the car; I'm in TX with a fridge full of cold Buds. So I can't actually see what's what.
He said heat from one of the stock manifolds has burned through two boots and those plugs are arcing to ground. Angle of Dart Pro 1's is different than stock LT1's and boots are touching the manifold. He decided to replace all 8 boots.

That's about all I know.

Years ago, Accel made shorter spark plugs. Whether you like Accel or not, its an option. Plugs are plugs to me.
Are they 90* ends? If so, here is a solution I used on a previos build and it lasted for years.
The 93-97 LT1 Camaro & Firebird came with small factory metal shields that snapped onto the 90* boots. They were only as big as the boots themselves. They only used 3 per car, as the rest of the boots were far enough away from the manifolds to not need them. Buy 8 of those from GM. They were only a couple of bucks each years ago. I never had a boot melt using those.
Accel 0416s are the right short plugs for Dart angled Gen 1 SBC heads. I think same as our cars use anyway, 14mm, 3/4" reach so forth and so on.
I ran them with my old Darts and the LPE headers (would be the same with SW and any other header manufacturer who puts the #8 tube inside of #4,#6. Can he just get some longtubes, I believe EM, TPiS (at least they both told me they would) and maybe Hooker would work.
Next shortest non-specialty plug I think is the NGK.
Thanks for all the responses. As I wrote earlier, he already ordered a set of ceramic boots. So, assuming they work as advertised, his problem is solved.
