Hey everybody,
I was getting ready to do the steering rack and front end while the engine and tranny are out. I purchased a front spring to replace mine (I was not sure of the condition and the rear spring was splintered and I got a good deal on both) and to lower it. There is no tag on the spring but this is stamped into it. I cant find any information on the rate or what year it came out of.
It is a bit "flatter" that the spring that I removed which was coded HKX.
Anybody know?
Thanks.
I had the same problem when I was adding codes to my chart. I would like to confirm the data on the BMA if anyone else can chime in. I believe it was on '84's. Part 14045781
15-year-old thread but that doesn't bother me. I have a fellow CF member that I would like to buy his BMA Spring. His car has a 10-83 build date. Is there any reason to believe that it doesn't have the same rate as the BMB Spring? In other words, do we know anything more than we did 15 years ago.
Searching CF I have confirmed that the BMA is both the Z51 and the Standard suspension Spring in 1984! Dino's Corvette lists it as the standard Spring for 1984 so that's what I'm going with, not Z51. However, It doesn't have much arch to it and I would think it is very close to another mystery FHU 1985 Z51 spring another one that doesn't show up on many charts. So, it could be considered an in between.
Another aspect that needs to be brought up about 1984 and 1985 springs is that ride height was configured for iron heads being much heavier. It’s not just spring rate but the baked in spring preload in a way.
Just went through this exercise for the BMB (1984 Z51 front) spring and with a lighter engine package, it’s quite a chore to get the ride height dialed in.

I'm using the Van Steel " Pucks" on my Spring to lower it. This last Autocross season I lost one. I watched a Video, and they glued them to the Cradle and not the Spring. So that's what I did this time. Actually, I glued them to the factory Aluminum Spacers that the Bolts pass through. If I want it lower, I could pull the spacers out. I have the X Brace on my Coupe. Really can't see why I would want it any lower. Certainly, can't see why people put Coil Overs on a streetcar just to lower them. This is a 1990 Z51 Spring.

oK thought you said 1985 spring earlier… confusing but whatever.
