Why some model owners claim to use orings and other don't ?

Sammy!!

Just get the o-rings!!! You need them!

Near the bottom of this link is the filter for your car. Along with that filter are the fittings required to use it in a "modified application" using AN fittings. Contrary to what's been posted here the filter is NOT inverted flare. It's a 16mm X 1.5 with what I've always heard referred to as a Saginaw "sealing system". The same sealing system is used by GM for P/S fittings and hydraulically boosted brakes.

It only takes ten seconds to check the FSM.

O-rings would be: -10 and -11.

If you crush the o-rings you're probably making them too tight.

Make sure you don't use the black ones. I get mine from the Dealer and they are Viton.

Viton (fluoropolymer [V75]) can be in different colors now. Black is actually most common, the compound can still be brown, and even green.

I have used www.oringsusa.com in the past and they do well.

Superior Chevy sent me several pair years back for an inexpensive price and shipping. I highly recommend them for any parts. 800-728-8267 superchevyperformance.com

Next time, open the fuel tank cap, remove the fuel pump fuse, start the engine, then let it runs until it dies from lack of gas. You'll have less than 1/3 of a cup in the system that way.

For safety's sake, you should also disconnect the battery before attempting to remove the old filter and install the new one.

Changed the fuel filter on my 95 today and yes there were O rings on the lines. I bought a pack of Viton O rings for $7 there were only 2 in the pack that were the right size. The gas never stopped flowing from the bottom line, what a mess. Pulled the filter up through the engine bay to get the top one. New Bosh III injectors tomorrow.

You can overtighten these very easy. Also a few years ago cannot rember when but there were a lot of fuel filters recalled because they were galvanizing to the factory nuts in a lot of cases making them impossible to remove. I doubt if there is any still out there but this is one area that I used antiseze. As far as I can remember the orings have been used on all GM fuelinjected cars using this filter.

Dove into the filter change today on my 96LT4. Yes as others have posted there are o-rings, they are brown, however they are not two different sizes. I used the out the engine bay procedure, had to pull out dip stick and disconnect one spark plug wire to pull that puppy out.

The two things that drove me nuts:

1. Finding the o-rings. Auto parts store, all three that I visited, waste of time they dont even know they exist. Finally went to a chevy dealer that sold the OEM brown colored rings. One of mine was completely mangled. Filter disconnects fairly easy so be careful not to over tighten.

2. The fuel drip from the gas tank just wont stop. I elevated the car, pulled the fuse, and relieved pressure from the tank and recapped. The fuel dripping all over your arm and back is the absolutely worst part of this job. If you are going to attempt this job I recommend you buy a heater core rubber plug to temporary plug that line up. If you resolve the leak you'll find that the job isnt that bad.

Just swapped fuel filter, yes it had Orings ! 011 Size !!! Just one size
i have to say the best method is to let it cool down, get it loose, and let the fuel
stop dropping, there are more fuel coming from the filter but not that much, it was never that bad at all.

I remember talks about two filters on the 87's but i didnt see other one, anyway i saw some strange thing on top of the filter, what's that ? i remember talks of the ACGF157
on the return line but i never saw any of that !

Here's a pic of the new filter installed , the one we took out was an ACDELCO GF481

Thanks !!!

On this filter the indications were the other way around, the flat side has the word "OUT" and i assume that's "out" into the fuel injectors.
The right side of my picture is the front of the car , this was taken from outside , passenger side :
Same way its installed on this picture :

Hi, I am making a custom fuel line using the fuel filter in question, and I need two of those o-rings. Unfortunately, the above means absolutely nothing to me. Could someone please explain it?

Interesting - a post to a thread on it's "1st anniversary"

What is the filter # that you're using? There are many that are similar in appearance. They don't all use the same sealing rings and fittings.

If you're using the filter discussed here and fuel lines with the correct fittings on the connecting end the GM# is 22514722. Most after-market vendors should be able to do an interchange from that information. NAPA could be CRB 212301.

These are for a 3/8 fuel line using a 16mm Saginaw sealing system. There are adapters to use this filter type converting it from the 16mm Saginaw to conventional AN fittings if that would make life easier for you!
