Default AFR-195 Eliminators Heads

I just bought a set of AFR-195 Eliminators heads, model number 1040. To replace the Edelbrock Preformer heads on my 1990 383 Vette. I was looking for a side by side comparison, of the new Eliminators verses the old AFR 195 heads, and found this.

Test Description:

This test compares AFR's original 195 street heads to AFR's new "Eliminator" 195 street heads (new port and chamber design, 8 mm lightweight valves and lightweight 1.260 springs and retainers). This test was conducted at American Speed (3006 23rd Ave. Moline, IL 61265) on a DEPAC Engine Dyno

Engine Specs:

•383 CID
•9.6 : 1 CR
•Edelbrock RPM Air Gap Intake
•Comp 236/242 Hydrolic Roller Cam
•Holley 750 Carb
•1.75 Long Tube Headers
•MSD Ignition
•38° advance with original AFR 195's
•37° advance with Eliminator AFR 195's
•Penzoil 15w-40
•93 octane Amoco pump fuel

There is no comparison not even in the same league.

Those performer heads flow max around 240 or something and your Street AFRs are ~280 right? I'd guess you would get 20-40 horsepower.

Their motor made a hell of a lot more horsepower but also had a big 236/242 cam made for high RPM horsepower which those older heads were just choking out.

Do it and get back to us on your results!

If you're building a TPI (with long tubes), they are close enough. Close enough to consider either depending on the price/restoration required. I'd consider the goals before generalizing. One size doesn't fit all.

Nice head. It's what I chose to use.

According to Edelbrock

60879
Valve Lift .100" .200" .300" .400" .500" .600" .700"
Intake.......64....122...177...217...229 ...232 -
Exhaust.....54...96......124....147...16 6...175 -

About the same as a ported 113 with small valves little less on the exh side Id have to look at some charts I have somewhere to see for sure

Search my username and you will see a few years ago I had one of the first sets. Part number 1095 and I had them flowed. The data is in an old thread.

Yes, these will be nothing like the Edelbrocks if those numbers are correct. Gains of +20cfm (int) and +20-40cfm (exh) at 0.2" lift and it stays steady at that or increases. You'll definitely be picking up some power regardless of the combination, obviously bigger cam, intake, headers etc can free more up, but I still would bet a stockish motor with those heads could gain ~20hp pretty easily. People are making killer power with the 1040s (not even the 1095s) they are definitely in a league above those Edels.

I still have the stock heads and other pieces as well, now I have to find a way to sell the performance parts coming off the motor.

The motor is a 383 with the Edelbrock-60879 heads, Edelbrock TPI intake, AS&M Big Tube runners, 52mm BBK throttle-body, a port matched airbox, LT4 hotcam with 1.6 roller rockers, Ford 24# injectors, FAST ECU, and long tube headers, built back in 2000. Originally the motor was to remain a 350, but when I pulled the heads off I found a cracked piston, and then I pulled off a main bearing cap, and found damage there to. So I ordered a 383 kit, instead of rebuilding the motor as a 350. Since I already had the TPI parts and 60879 Heads, that’s what I used.

The motor pulls very strong up to 5000 rpm’s then tails off quickly. So this year I decided to improve the intake; using a Holly StealthRam, then I decided to upgrade the heads since I’m already pulling the top of the motor apart. I will also add 32# injectors on the new intake. After this is all done, I hope to run up to 6200 rpm’s.

Id use a little more cam on the 383 if you want it to pull up to 6200
Rated 1500-5800 for a 350. Might spin higher but wont make any power above that just a thought

224-230 .55+lift 112 or 230-236 .55+lift 112 is what i would run with the AFRs and stealth ram!
