Default LOSE BOTTOM END POWER WITH HEADERS?

BAH! i'm calling BS!
It feels like u lost bottom end
BUT YOUR butt IS NOT A DYNO
I saw one dyno graph of an LT1 before and after long tube headers
and it gained SO MUCH TQ AND POWER off the line!

Yet me and my friend have this arguement over and over :boxing

he claims open headers drop low end- gain top end
he also claims this only works on the street and somehow ont he dragstrip you gain top and bottom end?
How does this make any sence?

So does anyone have a dyno chart or decisive proof other than your u've heard or believe to be true?

No "my mother's uncle's cousin's kid's sister-in-law's godchild's best friend's dad said..." stories please

thanks

Trey

EDIT: aparently he meant dragstrip car and a street car- not on the track and on the street

First of all.....

"he also claims this only works on the street and somehow ont he dragstrip you gain top and bottom end?

Trey doesnt like to listen. It was basically, there my not be to little backpressure on a dragster, but on a daily driver... yea there is such a thing

You must tune for long tubes.

You may lose bottom end with headers. Most (not all) stock manifolds (F bodies are really bad) on Chevy V8s are so bad that the bottom end will improve with almost any header. The diameter of the header tubes have a large effect on torque in the lower rpm range. 1 3/8 " pipes will have more lowend torque than 1.5" but will severely limit upper rpm power. 2" pipes will have great high rpm hp potential but lower rpm torque will really suffer. Its all down to exhuast flow velocity which is affected by pipe size. The exhuast behind the header matter also. A 1" exhuast will suck no matter what size header you have.

Headers also tune the exhuast so that more exhuast will be removed from the combustion chamber and the residual pressure in the combustion chamber will be lower than is possible without the tuning over the rpm range that the headers are designed to work at. That will result in higher torque in that range. In order for the turning to work, ALL the header pipes must be the right length for the desired rpm range and they must be with in 1" in length of each other. Virtually all aftermarket headers do not meet either of these requirements. I had set of $$$ hookers. One pipe was 7" longer than the shortest one and one was 4" longer than the shortest one.

Check out http://www.headersbyed.com. He talks about this stuff in great detail.
