Default 84 computer missing

My 84 was carb'd when I got it along with a hacked harness and computer missing. Will the computer missing have any effect on overall performance/operation of my car such as shift points, torque converter lock up, etc.. Any and all input would be MUCH appreciated

Should not have any effect ont he transmission. The 700R4 is not electronicly controlled. The shift points are controlled partially by the TV cable hooked up to the throttle body. That is assuming that a 460LE was not put in the car, but that would need a computer.

Try adjusting the TV cable following the proper procedure.

The torque converter lockup will not function without the computer. The lockup function will need to be controlled by some other device. There are devices and wiring that can help with this.

Yes forgot about the torque converter lockup. That is true. Shifting and shift points should not be affected.

Big thanks for the input!! Now for my next questions...

Would something like this work? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-70248/

Or should I just find a computer to put back in it?

Are you sure the trans is still setup for a lock up or is there still a lockup converter in the car.

From what I was told by the P.O. when I bought the car, the transmission is 100% stock and has NEVER left the car...even through 2 engine rebuilds.

If I were to buy an ECM to put back in it, would it be a simple plug in and I'm done or would I have to have it sent off and programmed since it now has a Quadrajet and a "lightened" wiring harness?

You will have to use a computer from a 84, thats it. The connections on the 84 are the edge card style. The 85 and up ecms use a different type of connection.
You can just wire in a switch to lock up your convertor when needed.
Since you have a carb and plan on staying that way there is nothing to tune, the ecms only operation would be to lock up your convertor... nothing more.

On my 84 I use a switch on the console to lock up the converter during a run. Just hook it up to ground the tcc wire going into the tranny. My ecu is in the cabinet. When the car was a street car, I would use the lockup only in 4th gear on the freeway, almost like an extra gear.
