'96 PCM or opti possibly?
My daughter's 96 zapped an altenator. So I replaced it and went out again(autozone). I had it re-built instead of Autozone crap.
After the first altenator the car wouldn't start. The next day it started fine. It ran great for 3 days and then the second altenator went out. Then I had it re-built. About a week later it died and wouldn't start. When i finally got it started it would stutter and stall and die. At first it wasn't throwing any codes. Then it threw a" P0372
timing reference high resolution signal A too few pulses."
Here is the data snapshot of when it threw the code:
Fuel sys 1 OL
Fuel sys 2 OL
Calc. Load % 4.3
ECT *F 91
STFT B1% 0
STFT B2% 0
LTFT B1% -.7
LTFT B2% -.7
MAP (inHg) 21.2
Eng RPM 757
veh speed 0
MAF lb/min 1.209
TPS % 0
It finally started and ran some but when I drove it, it was stuttering and sounded like backfiring thru the throttle body. When it was doing this I noticed the timing was all over the place from 16* to 40* at 1200 rpms. The tach was also going crazy and the ASR light came on.
I let it set for a few days and I accidentally left the key on and it completely discharged the battery. I recharged the battery and it started fine and drove well for about 20 miles of combined city and highway driving until I killed it and tried to restart it.It was hard to start and when it did it was stuttering again.
I changed the ICM and coil. It started right up stuttered twice and leveled out nicely. I drove it about 20 miles again and then on the highway it started stuttering again, almost like a fuel problem. In town driving it did fine. Then on the highway again it stuttered and the tach went dead and the ASR light came on.
When I got home I killed it and it started right back up but the check engine light was on. It was the P0372 again. I cleared the light and it would not restart. I checked the pigtail from the dist. to the passenger side FRC. It was fine or at least it showed good continuity. I checked for spark going to the plugs and there was none. I checked for spark coming out of the coil(brand new echlin brand) and there was none.
I am now out of ideas.
Any of you have any?
