OK this all started after I accidentally ran out of gas going to a gas station... (sending unit false read).
I went on a 58 mile trip at mile 38 the car was bucking and jerking on the highway... check engine light would come on. the more RPM the better it ran but it wouldnt run good for long and the MPG's dropped from 32 to 13 just before it started to act up. Code 44 (lean exhaust) showed up but yet black smoke would puff out when under acceleration.
Got it home
Replaced the O2 sensor, and plugs... it would spit and sputter, buck and jerk, + poor fuel mileage.
Alternator went out last night, replaced it... it runs like a top, but will buck and jerk, throws code 44... and mileage drops to a third of normal.
the spitting and sputtering has gone away.
The problem is intermittent.. I did put a fuel gauge on it but it the bucking and jerking stopped... but the fuel psi was steady at 40... but It did act up while I drove it.
WHAT do I do? anyone else had this problem? any ideas?
Check the basics first. Plugs, fuel filter and real important the timing if its not right it will run like crap.
Has new plugs, will change the filter when I get a chance (convertible). I didn't think about timing... Wonder if the chain is stretching when warmed up?? Will check cold the. Warm.
