Has anybody made this swap? I have a 94 LT1 and have swapped the rear to a D44 and am thinking that the powerglide would be great for a bracket racing drag car.
The 4l60 is front mounted so I am thinking that might be easier to swap the powerglide for.
Anybody do this or have any thoughts or opinions
I have done some searching and have not come up with anything. I did see a bracket for sale that would hold the tranny and bolt up to the stock mounts and is advertised to work with both a glide and a turbo400.

I have a power glide in my C4 But mine is no longer a LT1 car and has a solid rear so the install is a bit easier. With a little fab work on the C beam it should be doable..... However without changing your power level I would think the car may go slower.....that 4L60 has great torque multiplication and will affect 60'.
Powerglide transmission works best with a car under 2800lbs and an engine above 600 HP and rear end gear 4.10 or much lower like a 4.88.
Most drag Racers switch over to Powerglide when in the 8 second 1/4 mile Zone times.
You wont break a Powerglide transmission likely with a stock or warmed over engine.
But I dont think a powerglide swap is worth it right now for you. A Properly Blue Printed 700R4 or 4L60E is all you should need for your Corvette till You Exceed 600 Flywheel horsepower.

Gave me several good tips along with Dana at Pro-Built Transmission in California.
Thanks to them, My trans rebuild and uprades in my 87 Vert was a total success story the 1st time around.
You Learn alot rebuilding your 700R4 and 4L60E transmissions if You pay attention.
Definatley Blue Print Your Trans when rebuilding. Its a must to have them last.
Powerglides work best in light weight high hp cars. If you are running 10's or slower, you will probably be faster with 3 forward gears. Especially with the weight of a street driven C4, 3400lbs+ with a driver.
Had a stock '66 Impala SS that came with a 396 and a powerglide. Lots of fun and heavy, so i don't understand the "light weight cars only" statement. That thing was quick, but 4:11 rear gears.

Your Impala came with the powerglide because someone didn't check the option box when the car was ordered. I'm sure it felt quick, but would have been quicker with a turbo 350. For drag racing, powerglides are normally mated to lighter cars with high hp as mentioned previously.
