Default AC Delete (using a TPIS delete bracket) then back to AC!?

I noticed that my AC Compressor is beginning to sling some blackish oil around the front of the compressor. I believe that I have a front seal leaking and a potential compressor failure in the works.

I have some Vette events to attend this fall. I realling don't need the AC right now. I am considing going with a TPIS AC Delete Bracket like this one. $149.00 and I install one evening this week.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LT1-L...cessories#shId

This is a temporary fix and allows me to drive the car/enjoy the car throughout the fall, winter and spring without worry of the compressor locking up on me and stranding me on the side of the road...

I will most likely be buying a new AC Compressor next summer for this car. I want to make sure I take whatever precautions necessary for a smooth re-install of the AC compressor months down the line. I am looking for tips on removing and later installing another Compressor later.

I am all ears...

Thanks.

check the underside of your hood that oil is acidic.

You can undo the lines going to the firewall and cap them with plastic -an caps, get a kit of them from summit or jegs to do all of the fittings and lines to keep them clean

i got rid of my a/c system on my 94 and used the tpis bracket. real nice piece. compressor is easy to get out, its only like 4 big bolts to the bracket and 4 little ones for the line. make sure you drain the system first or it will spray everywhere

if you do not need the air just turn it off. the compressor is not turning at this point so no oil sling. Execpt when using defrost. But honestly I do not think you are slining oil. You would have to have a major leak to see oil coming out the front of a compressor and if it was it would be clearish. My quess it your clutch is getting ready to take a crap. The black oily stuff you are seeing is materal around the windings heating up and becoming liquified. in this case the clutch needs replaced. But if the bearings are fine in the clutch you can just unplug the compressor so it does not come on no matter what and run it till you get get it repaired. This is just an opinion from what you are saying I amy be way off.

And if the compressor is working now, it is an extremely easy rebuild- like above, discharge the freon correctly, cap the lines, rebuild, new orings on all the lines, new orifice valve, correct oil, vacuum and recharge. Very easy. and you will have air. Now if you just WANT and a/c delete, thats another story.......

Great bracket. I also do not intend to put AC back on ever because I would need every piece of the system. However I would pull all the parts and plug the lines. Plan on replacing the dryer, and really cleaning the lines, evap and condensor.

You may well have a point about the winding coming apart. It is black and oily. Does not have the smell of PAG oil. I can wiggle the pigtail that leads into the back of the AC clutch and it is loose and makes a "click/clacks" sound as it is pulled on. It is obviously dead. Bearing appears OK but eventually the clutch may lock up. Not a good thing!

I also believe the front seal is shot. It is not holding a charge now. Just can't fork over the money for a new compressor. The Compressor Delete will have to get me through until summer comes again!

The TPIS Delete bracket is on the way... Not I need to seal up the AC lines that will remain on the car.

Has anyone done this before and what size AN caps do I need? Thanks.

Jakers you are going to have to evap the system anyway. Just duck tape the lines to keep excess moister from intering and call it a day the lines or nothing in the system can rust. When you replace the compressor just evap for a longer time. Thats just me and what I would do if not worring about apperance. Remember that you will need to replace the drier when you replace the comp.

Jim at TPIS got the bracket out to me on time! Thank you Jim! Quality piece and now no more concerns about that the AC Clutch and the Compressor. Installed the bracket this afternoon and removed the lines. It only took me about 1 1/2 hours including the time to remove the RD Camber Brace which is much much easier to deal with not that the AC Lines are gone. Hooked073, followed your advice and taped in up. Actually looks pretty good and only a NCRS guy would even notivce! The car is ready to head out to Road Atlanta for the Petit LeMans tomorrow!!

Air? We don't need stinking Air! Because it is going to be 60 degrees tonight, 76 for the high tomorrow and a Low of 50 degree tomorrow night. I love motoring in Georgia in October and on into November! It is a little slice of heaven!

Thats right. Although with all that AC stuff gone working under the hood is alot easier and it looks much better to me. Cleaner.

400+ miles since I put it on and smooth sailing so far. Operating flawlessly and looks greet under the hood as well.
