I was changing my thermostat the other day at the shop to a Hypertech 160 unit and was flushing my cooling system at the same time. I was trying my best to keep water away from the Opti, when a coworker grabbed a hose and shoved it into the water pump forcing water all over the place. I was not happy. Some water got on the opti. I had touble starting the car the next day several times. Today the vette started up right away. Do you guys think that my opti is shot now? Unfortunately I just put the camer brace on 2 weeks ago and would have to take it off again!! :)
Re: Possible Optispark damage to my 96? (Ross96coupe)
With the vented Opti on the 96 I doubt that it caused the problems (I guess it took GM a few years to find out how bad the old design really was and corrected it in 95) .
You probably got coolant on the coil or plug wires.
Re: Possible Optispark damage to my 96? (Ross96coupe)
If you are getting above 50,000 miles give or take the seal on the opti drive may be going or the seal that seals the two halves together may be going south. I had the same thing happen to my 94. It also dried out then started OK. I later took it off and the seals were going as well as the drives bearing. I know this one is vented on the 96. This helps suck out moisture.
Good luck.
