Yes, another dumb broad here. I washed the engine in our '92 and now it is missing and backfiring. I was told to dry out the distributor cap, but I need directions. (Yes my husband told me not to wash it, but I thought he just didn't think was dirty.) HELP. So far I haven't had to tell him, but we are going to Eureka Springs AR to a show tomorrow.

Reason: misspelling

This is one of those times you will learn that the old man really did have a good reason for saying "Don't wash the engine."
I have learned my lesson, don't question the master...now how do I fix it before he gets home?
Good luck with that, probably will not happen. The Opti spark distributor is buried behind the water pump and is known for being easily damaged by water or anti-freeze. You can try aiming a hair dryer at the cap and ignition wires but both are difficult to access.
Wish I had better news, but this often requires distributor replacement, sorry.
I doubt it will need replacement but you will have to wait till it dries out. I had it happen to my 92 once a long time ago. See how she runs in the morning.

Agree.
There is no getting lucky here. If it should, it won't work correctly for long.
