Default AFR 210 w/hooker 2149

I am starting to collect parts for me new engine and just ran into a snag. I already have Hooker 2149's and full 3" stainless exhaust already on the car, I was going to run a pair of AFR210's but the hooker website says they will not fit with the angle plugs. Any ideas or mods I can do to make this work? I am not running any smog equipment

Give Hooker Headers a call Tomarrow-Monday Yourself.

If Your Headers dont work with your AFR's after talking to them.

They can build you a custom set of headers that will fit your AFR's in the Primary Tubing size You want and any Collector size to 5 inch.

I had last gen AFR 210 L98 plug angle with 2149's I cut the pipes out around the plug and welded in Hooker tube so I had better clearance, then had them re-coated ,, you can get the pipe by Hooker from Summit

One reason why the AFR product makes me mad,

my 2149's worked perfect with my comp port 195's. not sure if that would be the same as the 210's.

Accel makes a plug thats 1/4=3/8 shorter than the usual autolite 3924 if that helps.

Accel- 0416s

I think NGK's are next shortest for a non-shorty plug.

You already have the heads? I had the option of straight or angled plugs when I ordered my AFR's!

AFR used to make 3 plug angles. Straight, L98 angle and angle. The Hookers work fine on my L98 angle, I suspect other peoples' issues stem from using the angle plug option (or straight) instead of the L98 angle. I never understood why they did this. I'm under the impression that AFR only uses the straight & L98 options now so you may be OK. Best to check & be sure though.

Edit: I think you're reading dated information on the Hooker website.........I'd call AFR as well just to be sure, but Tony told me that's no longer an issue with the newer heads a couple years ago.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if AFR accidentally shipped me Angle plug and not L98 plug which is what I ordered.

I bet that's what happened Larry, you & I have essentially the same thing going on up on top & the only issue I had was #7 about 1/8" away from the tube after the plug boot was on (I sleeved it anyway). Everything else has plenty of clearance on my car.

BTW, how's your tune doing?

I just had a similar issue with my AFR 210 L-98 angle plug heads and Hedman 68448 headers. I've had my AFR's for around 6-7 years. Just recently installed the Hedmans. The only problem I had was the #3 and 4 plugs will not thread in with the headers torqued in place. Heres a picture of my 210s (bottom) and Calderone's 195s (top). Notice how high the header flange is over the water temp sensor. That brings the tubes right up into the plugs.
If Accel made a short plug similar to Autolites 3922 that I'm running I would have just done that. Running a blower gives less options in choosing plugs so eventually I'll modify my headers for changing plugs. Right now I just loosen the bolts and change them out.
