Re: Emissions............Air pump. (corvette0096)
AIR system does not really effect emissions (as tested) very much.
If you have a three-way cat it does provide O2 to the last section and could have some effect, also lack of O2 at this point MAY reduce cat life somewhat.
If they do a visual and notice it you can fail for that.
I was told by a guy that has his own shop that all the air pump does is push air into the manifold and makes the cat get hotter. He said there would be no problem to get the thing to pass as long as i didnt have to sit and wait in line at the test center very long. That way the cat will stays HOT. This sound right?

Re: Emissions............Air pump. (corvette0096)
AIR system has two uses.
1.) On cold start the output of the pump is directed to the exhaust manifolds to burn up excess gas in the cold running engine and also speed the heating of the O2 sensor and cat.
2.) Upon warm-up on an engine with a 3-way catalytic converter (check if AIR tube runs to center of converter), air flow is diverted to the cat to provide O2 to the second section of the converter to aid in the oxidizing of CO and HC.
