Default MAF problems???

I was told by someone that my MAF may be going bad.

Problems:
1)when giving it 40-60% throttle, it bogs some(automatic)

2)at idle it sometimes misses(new plugs and wires, but going to replace anyway)

If these aren't symptoms of a bad MAF, what does a failing MAF do?

I've heard that if you unplug the MAF and it runs better it's a good indication of a bad unit.

A scan tool would let you look at the MAF readings and other sensors to help in the diagnosis.

The car won't start if you unplug the maf sensor. I did that accidentaly when I ported it, and it wouldn't start.

Must differ from an L98. That's the prescribed diagnosis for my MAF.

The units for the L98 and the LT-1 are totally different, so maybe it's not the same diagnosis.

Anyone else?

My experiance with the l98, unplug the maf and it will barely run at all. Almost sounds like fuel problem, fuel pump, filter. Just a guess, need to pull the codes if there are any to rule something else out.

No codes.

I was thinking about the fuel pump or maybe the injectors, but I'd rather not have to change those unless I have to. I don't really like changing expensive stuff out just for trouble shooting, but I guess I may have to.

BTW, where are all the LT-1 guys on this?

well if youre missing badly w/o a code the first thing i would look at is the Optispark, fuel filter or bad injectors

It's not throwing any codes at all.

And it's not really a miss, it's more like a bog(like it's going to stall or something). It's like with a manual you release the clutch but don't give it enough gas, it bogs heavily, but mine's an automatic.

I may be mistaken, but on your car if the MAF goes bad the MAP sensor takes over. So in other words it should still run well and give a code for the MAF. Any other symptoms.

Well it may not be the MAF, that's why I asked if it may be going bad! The only things that are wrong with it are the two above stated problems.

Sounds like a weak spark. A new coil or MSD could help.

Get a fuel pressure gauge that attaches to the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Check your pressure at idle and when driving with the above symptoms (tape it to the windshield). If when you go WOT the fuel pressure has a sharp drop and doesn't return quickly then it's a fuel delivery problem. Change the fuel filter and test again etc. :smash:

It could also be a clogged cat if you have ruled out any ignition related problems. What are the temps and any other symptoms? On a 94 a bad MAF sensor should throw a code. Do you know anyone with Autotap to see what's going on? Diagnose the problem before you throw parts at it. :yesnod:

I have datamaster, so I'll do some scans and see what that says.

BTW, no cats(straight pipes).
