Default Tire pressure sensors

I was reading my '92 FSM electrical manual. There was a section on Tire Pressure Monitor System. It showed RF antennas and everything for a TPS system.

Does a '92 have TPS? If so where on the dash is there a display to show each tire pressure. If so was it an option or standard feature on a '92?

The 92 has a TPMS, it is only a "low tire pressure" warning idiot light.
The transmitters in the stock wheels are huge and connected to the wheel with a huge band. Most often the box seperates from the band and folks remove them from all 4 wheels.
I don't use it since I check my tire pressures often.

Tire pressure monitoring was optional on the '92. If you have it, RPO code UJ6 will be listed on the label inside the console lid and two warning lights in the DIC will be operational.

My '92 has this option. The bad thing is the sensors are no longer continued by GM and when the internal, piezoelectic sensor batteries go bad, (usually within 10 years or so) your only option is to buy used ones, pull the bulb on the DIC, or put a piece of black electrical tape over the DIC display area.

Can't the ECM or BCM be reprogrammed to turn off this optional feature?

IIRC, you have to pull the bulbs or disconnect the LTPWS module.

You can pull fuses, but there are other components that get involved.

Here is a write-up on how to change the battery in the sensor unit on a C5 Vette. Its not quite the same, but I think you will get the idea.

Let us know how you make out.
