Default Harlan Shift Light Help?

I'm trying to install a Harlan Shift light. I was using Hutch's install guide but I've run into some problems. Maybe it's because my car is OBDI, and his was OBDII. I'm not sure what wire bundle he's talking about. At first I thought it was the bundle of wires coming off the back of the diagnostic port, but apparently is not. I've been told I need to route the wires outside the car and tap into the tach wire at the coil. (yellow and black wire) I don't know where the key-on wire is at. I really need some help, how should I do this? What are you guys recommendations for splicing into the wire? I couldn't find easy splices for 20ga. wire at Autozone. Should I just cut all the wires and connect them with a wire nut?

Thanks.

I can't help you on anything else, but please don't use wire nuts on your car. They don't work for crap on stranded wire and will only cause trouble.

BTW, had you ever installed that MSD digital 6 you could just use it's tach output for your shift light.

I just installed a Harlan on my 92. The wires he's talking about are located
on the wire block that comes throught the fire wall on the inside of the car. It's located to the left of the clutch pedal closer to the that kick panel. It has a
plastic cover over it with a bunch of wires coming out of it. you have to pop off the cover and you will see the wires coming out of the lowest part of the block. These are the ones your looking for.
I cant remember which ones which. But that should put you in the right area so
you can finish following his directions. I use those connectors that you just
sqeeze on with pliers with out cutting any wires, they work great. I wouldnt start cutting any of the wires. And wire nuts are more for house type wire work, on cars theres a big verity of crimp connectors you can use to keep it
clean and neat. Hope that helps. :flag
