Just a guess but I'd take inches * 25 to come up with a good width.
6" * 25 = 150
Then you need to figure the aspect to come with a size that someone makes.
You want your total diameter to be close to your stock wheel/tire combo.
For those sticklers out there I know 1" is approximately 25.4mm. The estimate should give him some wiggle room. He may not be able to find a 150 tire, a 155 would work for his 6" rim
Your best be is to go to the tire manufacturers website, and look at the specs for the tire you are considering.
Tire Rack will also list the specs.
All tires will have a recommended rim width measurement. Stay within that range, and you'll be fine.
You could also give a little more information of exactly what your looking for.
Not sure what year Corvette your talking about, but I know my '96 didn't have 6", 7", or 8" rims.
Front: 8.5" with a 255/45-17 tire
Rear: 9.5" with a 285/40-17 tire
Any wider than those, your going to need to use a wider rim.
