I have owned this car(1987) for 16 years 49K miles and do not drive it more much as I am getting older (49) This year the brakes felt stiff, you have to push hard on the pedal to stop the car. I have replaced all rotors, pads, flushed all the fluid ,and even the power brake booster as it hissed when you stepped on the pedal. That was the last fix and I thought for sure it was the booster. Anyway I don't think this car could stop on a dime if I pressed with one foot on the pedel and one on the ground.
Some on the forum have found that with a hard pedal issue, if they go to a safe area and make several stops hard enough to trigger the abs, the normal pedal function returns.
I too had a hard pedal on my 87 I bought earlier this summer.
As mentioned, I went out on a dirt road and made 5 hard stops
to activate the ABS. The pedal feels great now and the brakes are much better. GIve it a try.....its free.

No, no ABS Light On, just a hard pedal. The brakes worked ok but hard pedal. After the hard stops on dirt activating the ABS, the pedal now is a normal feeling and brakes are all so much better. Part of this winters work is tearing the brake system down and inspecting and replacing needed parts.
