To much cost lost in shipping IMO. Shipping it to you, shipping the heads off for sale, shipping new heads in, shipping the cam, shipping the V/C's, shipping the old block somewhere, etc.
A local shop would save a lot of money.

You didn't but the type of person that would buy a crate engine wouldn't want the old stuff sitting around. They either have to sell it and ship it or spend the time/gas money hauling it off somewhere. It's just another factor that eats into the value IMO.

By the time I bought that block, shipped it to Australia, paid import tax and paid someone to put it in my car it would be about $6K. You guys have it good.
My club mechanic quoted me $15K for a stroker installed!

When selling stuff usually the one buying covers shipping.
Mfrs get great deals on frieght its not much .
Heck you want new its going to cost something
Id take new over rebuilt any day of the week if money permitted.
Rods are better than what came in the L98 pistons decent..again its BRAND new that has to count for something.
Different strokes I suppose -

Considering there is only one or two shops in Australia who do the rhd conversions and charge $40K anything goes.
Spoke to a guy last week who bought a c5 in Hawaii for $25K. After one year since buying it he just got it registered. So to get to his first cruise has cost him one year and $87K! Can you believe that?

So based on this thread, that engine is a L98 replacement with different head? Do I have that right?
Slap the needed parts on like you've noted like oil pan, heads, TPI, and I'm back to an all original L98 but slightly better components for about $3K. I didn't see a HP rating on it, did I miss that?
