Default LT1 Question

I'm dropping an LT1 in my 1984 and have a question about emissions. Actually, I'm not planning on running any, if possible. however, there is some question about the tubing running into and out of the heads, intake. Speciffically, on the back of the engine (either on the intake, or head) is an opening that is opposite the EGR. I'm pretty sure a tube goes from there to the passenger side manifold. However, I do not have this tube. Is there a way to block this off at the engine? Or, is this tube necessary? I'm not too familiar with this and would like to know if they are needed, and, if not, how do I go about blocking them off. I'm new to the LT1 and need some help in understanding.
Thanks,
Rich

Plug it with a pipe plug. You should be able to fing that at a harware store. I need the same thing. I might go get one today and tell you what size to get.
BTW: Check out how I cleaned mine.

I figured I could plug the manifold with a plug (Nice clean job, by the way!). I was talking about how to block off the hole in the rear of the engine where this tube was. It has 2 studs, one on each side of the hole. I'm not sure what to do here. Thanks,
Rich

Actually, as long as you block the EGR off, you can leave the other hole open.

???? that might give a wee bit of an exhaust leak.

Why?
OP said he didn't have the pipe that SUPPLIES the exh gas from the pass exh manifold to the port being discussed

Port supplies exh gas internally to EGR valve so if pipe missing there is NO gas.
All you have to do is seal the EGR entry port to intake as ZBRA mentioned so you don't have a vac leak
Smaller block of plate shown above is for cosmetic purposes only ; you only need the one for EGR

now I'm confused

is the hole in the exhaust manifold a source of exhaust gas for the egr system ?

or is it the place of entry for air from the air pump into the exhaust ?

inquiring minds want to know.

in either case, I don't believe its a pipe thread. before hogging out the manifold and jamming in a pipe plug, and ruining an expensive exhaust manifold that at some future date need to be returned to stock, I would suggest going to a you pull it yard and getting a couple of the stock fittings (and no they don't have to be off a corvette...any gm engine of similiar vintage would be a good candidate) and either cutting and sealing the pipe itself or welding up the hole in the fitting,
and plugging the hole with a proper sized fitting.

Exactly and that is why you would have an exhaust leak.

This is the hole I'm talking about. I'm not using the EGR. I plan to leave it on there, but plug it at the nipple. Will one of those block off plugs work? If picture doesn't show, I have no clue and need some help in how to get one up.

I answered your question a long time ago. The big one blocks off the EGR valve. The small one is the one you are looking for.
