Hi, I was driving my 96 auto home today and its been running like a champ for the past couple years....here comes the reality check:
coming around a turn to merge onto the highway, the tires slipped a little and the ASR kicked in and when it did that, it sounded like I went over rumble strips, then I lost 2nd gear!
I made it home fine (20 mile highway drive) but it wouldn't shift into 2nd gear, It would go in all others though. so once I got closer to home, I started to move the shifter around to figure out what happened and if I'm in OD or drive and shift to 2nd gear, it goes into gear, but just revs up.
Going to a local shop that was referred by a good friend that does very good work on Monday. I'm most likely going to be getting a rebuild and was given a pretty good price for it.
Now my question is what stall speed TC should I get and I want to upgrade the internals since he's rebuilding it. What do you recommend for the rebuild kit and shift kit?
I would be careful... My friend had his shift synchro go and it wouldnt shift into 3rd... He didnt know this so he went to a tranny shop near us and they said a complete rebuild was needed ($2k)! He was smart and went for a second opinion and the better shop did the right thing and said all he needed was the synchro and fixed it for $120... I personally dont know a lot about transmissions but would like to learn more!
On a side note, forget the rebuild and get one of these trannys!
Yep, no second for sure, but I think I have 4th? I'm taking it to a local shop later today. He gave me a good price to do the entire thing, so thats what I'll do. My fluid smells burnt and is a nice shade of brown now
I have about 190,000 miles on it, so it is well due for a rebuild!
