Where are the drive and driven gears located? My manual shows a Speed sensor before the tail shaft on the drivers side, is this the VSS ?
Best place to purchase ?
The gears are on the transmission tail shaft and on the Vehicle Speed Sensor.
You are looking at the right place in the manual.
These part numbers are gm part numbers and should be available from GM.
Drive gear p/n 8640517 (Red 17 Teeth)
Driven gear p/n 25513049 (Green 42 Teeth)
VSS p/n 10456092
I hear that you may have a hard time finding the VSS from GM now days, and can also try NAPA under p/n ECH VSS214 for the VSS.
Or you can try http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...__va.htm#700r4.
Item number #55, but make sure with them that, that is the right VSS.

Awsome website for info. So acording to what you guys are saying is my trans should allready have a 17 T driven gear and all I need is the $11.00 plastic 42 T driven and not the actual VSS sensor $$$
I will call them Monday to verify, thanks you guys were very helpful.
Here is what I found out from PATC. (If you call ask for the Corvette guy) I was told I would need a 41 T driven But they don't make them anymore so I would have to go with a 42 T. The problem with this is the stock sensor or VSS will only except a 38 T so you have to buy another VSS which excepts the next series of higher numerical Teeth for $90. The good part is if you already have your drivetrain apart and can pull the rear housing on the tranny then you can buy a 15 T drive gear for $15 and save some cash. either way will get you the correction needed it just depends on what you want to do. For me it was well worth pulling 4 bolts and removing the tail to save $90.
So that is my story for a corrected speedo when swaping the 2:59's fpr 3:07's. If you want to live with the speedo being off it equals a 18-20% faster speedo than what you will actualy be driving. Thanks for all who helped.

His advice is incorrect.
All 3:07 gear cars came from gm with a red drive gear, and 42 tooth driven gear.
The sensor may be rotated 180 degrees to correct the offest, and re-installed. 5 minute project at most.

So are you saying the VSS will accept the 42 tooth?
Is it worth going to 3.07 from the 2.59? How would the gear change effect the daily driving habits of the car?
It will take a decent car, and turn it into a slug. Unless you plan to go racing on the salt flats, and hit 200 mph, 2:59 (in my opinion) should never have been produced.
