Default 4L60E Question

I'm dropping an LT1/4L60E into my 84 and have a couple questions. I'm using a tranny from a 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood and have read a ton of conflicting information, so I need definite answers to set the record straight. Here goes:

1) Does this tranny from the Caddy have the larger "corvette" servos? (it was mated to an LT1).

2) Should I need a servo, what should I get? Do I need 1/2 shift & 3/4 shift or what exactly should I do? How about longer pin? I'm kinda lost with the servo thing. I understand what it does, just not exactly what components I need. This is a stock LT1 and not for racing.

3) Is the tailshaft longer than the stock 700r4 coming out of it?

Any help here is greatly appreciated.

I'll answer #3. You need to cut approximately 3/4" off the new output shaft. Use your old housing and you'll be good to go.

The servo isn't a must it just gives it firmer shifting.

True. However, I wish to have the larger servos for better shifting. The question was does the Caddy 4l60e have these large servos? If not, which servo(s) should I get? They range from $20 to $200 on ebay, depending on what you get (2nd only, 2/4, ect.). Is the longer pin a good idea? Just need help sorting this out. Thanks.

The short answer is no. Caddy transmissions have a crappy servo. A stock corvette servo (20 bucks) is all you need. The longer pin is needed if there is excessive travel of the servo, as determined by the go,no go kent moore servo pin checking tool.

Thanks, I am also installing the transgo hd2 kit. Just want to do this right and only do it once.

Then don't install the transgo kit. They are often more trouble than they are worth.

Really? I thought the hd2c kit was a must to ensure longer life. I've heard nothing but good things. I'd be interested in hearing your side.

I presented my side in the post above.
They are problematic, in my opinion.

I have had good luck with those kits. I would use only 1 spacer on the 1-2 accumulator. Also check for cracks on the plastic piece that applies pressure on it. If there are any cracks get one from a 80LE.
Vette servo is a good idea. Run one shim with it and it will shift well.

Good luck with your car!

I installed the kit in my 96 (along with numerous other mods) two years ago. After 20k miles it still shifts perfectly.

The corvette servo was ordered this morning. Transgo kit is already in garage waiting on the servo. Thanks to those of you who replied.
