I think the exhaust system is touching my rear spring and i can smell a faint plastic burning smell after i drive it hard.
I think it is melting into the spring a little bit.
The car is on jack stands for the winter with a list of items to address.
It is a non Z51, non Z07, non FX3 car. What spring code do i need?
I have a lead on a 87 fiberglass rear spring with the code NYR 032088 on it. Will this be ok for my 91? What was the code on the spring in my car now? It may not need to be changed, but the spring is for sale cheap and I might as well grab it while it is available.
As far as shocks go, the car has 91 k on it and i am going to do 4 shocks all around this winter. It kills me over bumps, but I think the old shocks are part of it. Will a new set of Bilstiens taek care of me? Or would something softer work better? Any recommendations?
If I have to pull the leaf spring, I will probably do all new bushing back there while it is all apart.
since no one else tried this, I will. The nyr spring should work, the code will be on the end and easily read, but I would try to find out how many miles it had seen, a newer one might be a better choice, closer to your year of car. Those shocks will be 'firm' and may not give you the most comfortable ride, if thats what you're shooting for. I havent changed my shocks yet and they are 'pepboys' specials, but the ride is comfortable. Iknow you're going to do it , but fix the exhaust. Another good upgrade that I've done is to replace the rear strut'camber' rods with the adjustable ones sold by a few of the venders on this site. That was money well spent. hope this helps, bob
i have my car up on jack stands and the burning smell was a plastic bag on the cat. The rear spring was not damaged from the exhaust so I think everything will be fine.
