Default Fuel Line replacement???

When I was replacing my rear shocks, I happened to notice that my fuel line(s) were disgustingly rusted...Big scaly chunks rusted and look like ready to fall off...I know one will burst at speed and strand me somewhere...

Has anyone done this? Is it hard? Do they (fuel & return on my '86, I think) have weird ends/fittings, or can I use brake line with double-flared ends??? :(

(And why are my brake lines un-rusted while my fuel lines are almost rusted away???)

I replaced line when I crushed it at one of the jacking points. If ya decide to do it, get pre-bent lines or a tubing bender. I had a helluva time forming it. I spliced it in with a compression fitting.
I don't think you would burst a line like that. I've heard of rubber lines bursting but never metal.
goodluck

Oh boy...not another case of line rust.
Wanted to pass along that last year I searched everywhere for someone that sells a fuel line replacement kit and no one does.GM discontinued the lines some years back and no aftermarket makes them.

My 86 had the same serious rust on the lines behind the back wheel on the frame going to the gas tank.

I ended up replacing the lines with aeroquip braided fuel hoses w/adaptors to connect them to the front lines and fuel filter.
It was a BIG JOB.I had to drop the rear end out and remove the rear bumper cover to get the old lines out.My gas tank was also rusted really bad in many spots and had to replace that too.Got the tank used from a salvage yard.

If you can remove the lines without damaging them, you can probaby have someone custom make you the lines again w/pressed on rubber hoses in the back.May need to look for someone in your area that specializes in this. They will need your old lines to have someone copy bend the new ones exactly the same.

Btw,I was living in NY at the time and the winter salt roads ate the lines away in the back.
If you have any more questions,I can answer them. But for now, maybe contact some SS tubing suppliers and see if theyre making the lines for these cars yet or will custom make them for you.
:)

My fuel lines are rusted also on my 93, but my 95 with three times as many miles is fine
