Default 84 Power Steering Pump Pulley

I have noticed my power steering pump pulley is warped. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

The years from 84 to 91 interchange, look on E-bay or a number of corvette recyclers (junkyards). I don't know about getting a new pulley anywhere.

Thanks. I noticed the pulley looked similar on my 87. Different pump/reservoir arrangements though.

Measure the diameter of the pulley and go to your local junk yard and match it up.

They are used on a lot of different models.

The pulley on my 84 was 'bent' but I just used a pry bar and went around it and straightened it.

Make sure you use the correct tool to pull and install the pulley.

I am not sure going to an Australian junk jard is going to help. Maybe mine is bent because somebody was trying to get it on or off without using the right tools.

Is this a special tool? Same one for off and on?

The puller tool pulls from the center, don't use a 3 jaw puller on the outside of the pulley. You'll bend the pulley up. Is there a tool rental place in your area that you could check?
There is an installer tool also, it uses a thrust bearing to ease the process. In a pinch you could use a long threaded 3/8 bolt, nut, & thick washer to pull it on, use plenty of lube to help it go on. The center of the pulley must be flush w/ the pump shaft snout.
Almost every car I've seen w/ p/s has a ribbed pulley, the c4s are the only ones that have a smooth one, the pump runs backwards.

I am not aware of tool rental places in Oz. However, we have a tool shop up the road so I will pay them a visit. I also have a few mates with just about every tool invented who I could trouble. This seems pretty similar to the process I went through recently to replace the harmonic balancer.

Would a warped pulley cause a problem / much vibration? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

You can get them seperatly. But usually the on/off comes in the same kit. It is a power steering pulley puller. You can usually rent them from the auto parts store like Autozone.

I doubt it's vibration you would feel, but if it changes with RPM, anything is possible.

Here is the tool set to remove and install the pulley:

I thought the removal tool would have a couple of jaws to pull the pulley off! How does this one work?

You don't want to use jaws or you'll warp the pulley.

That was very helpful. So does the summit tool have those half pieces too?

It should. It says it is for GM pulleys. So, it should work. The kit I rented from the local auto parts store had a few different screws so you could use it for different makes.
