My buddy has a '90 6 speed that just had a new clutch, plate and flywheel installed. Prior to the install, it shifted through all of the gears just fine.
After getting the car back, it will not shift in to any gear other than 4th above 40 MPH. Get below 40 and it will shift in to 5th, 6th, 3rd, whatever. But cross that 40 mph barrier, and 4th is all you get.
The shop that installed the clutch says the synchros might be bad. Is this possible? It seems like something electronic not allowing it to shift.
It's not like it's grinding when trying to go from 4th to 5th, it's more like it is completely locked out.
Thank you guys. CAGS was my first thought as well. I believe it was defeated by the previous owner, but I'm not sure.
I had no idea it had a 5th/6th lockout. Hopefully that info will help.

Thanks again :)
I don't think there is a 5th/6th lockout... I am wondering if the electronics is out of wack or what.
Thanks a billion for the input... the 5th/6th lockout was the big question. Now that we know the CAGS can do both I can try and rest easy tonight knowing I may not have to deal out the cash for a rebuild!!!
Well, my car is back and it's baaaaad!!! hehehe. The CAGS was the problem. The guy hooked it back up for some reason. Probably one of those common things you do if your a mechanic. See something wrong you plug it back in or tighten it up just out of habit. Car is driving great and it's awesome to have a new clutch and have all that HP back!
