I just got my OBDI cable, installed Winaldl, hooked everything up and after changing the baud rate to 4800, started getting data on the screens on the laptop. Did some data logging and closed everything up like your supposed to. Surprise, couldn't find the log files. Searched the c: drive but they just weren't there. Went Googling for an answer.
Ran across an IH forum that has some members into FI conversions and picked up this tidbit.

If you're running windows 7
right click winaldl icon
-> properties
-> compatibilty mode
-> run as "windows XP"
EndQuote
In all the research on Winaldl I've been doing this is the first time I've see this. Did what it said and now it generates log files. Thought I would post it in case anybody else is running Win 7 and having trouble generating log files.

I am running windows 7 but have not got my cable yet. However, when I run winaldl I get a message "Can't open com port"
That's the same message I get when I don't have the cable plugged in and start the program. When you plug the cable in, Win 7 sees it as a new device and asks if you want it to search for a driver. I did that and it loaded a driver that worked with Winaldl and the cable. Pretty simple really.

Cool tip. I just recieved my ALDL cable yesterday with USB connection and in the short time I spent on it I wasn't able to get a connection. I will try changing the baud rate to 4800 next.

Something simple I'm sure that I'm overlooking.
