Default 700R4 help?

Just got my tranny back from the rebuilder, the second time!

The first one lasted about a week would not up shift to D/OD one morning and it was slow shifting.

Well the guy has done it again

Well before we are driving it this time took pressure readings and would like opions on the pressure.
Idle@tv cable Idle w/o TV cable 1500rpm with Full TV cable
P 72 70 86
R 113 113 135
N 72 72 83
O/D 72 72 83
D 72 72 83
2nd 152 137 145
1st 148 133 145

I think the pressure's are low and he is checking into it. Well haven't driven it yet; don't want to screw it up getting tired of pulling it out and putting it back in.

thanks Gang wro87

seems when I post it the pressures all run together sorry about that gang1

find another rebuilder, he should've been able to bench check all that prior to installing in your car

I agree I pull it he rebuilds and I put it back in!
He rebuilds alot of trannys out of his garage for the small dealers and shops around "real resonable". He does have a good rep (a little SLOW) but he seems sincere about the problem.
I think there might be a pump problem since to me the pressure seems low. It has been over 30yrs since the last time I did one, and hell i might be doing one before long.

get it to one of the shops that has a trans dyno. for a small fee they'll dyno it , check preasures and do adjustments , I worked for a small shop years ago, it was hit and miss cause they had no way to pretest

Well Gang I guess the big ? is that are these pressures too LOW or not bad at all?

I have done a lot of research and it seems that some of the answers are across the board.

I can't tell from the information as too just how much the pressure should go up once you increase the engine rpm and have the TV cable pulled out!

Thanks wro87

Thanks Pete K

I haven't done one of these for over 35yrs and had my doubts when I started to do the research and pressure check.
Well I got a call into him when I talked to him the other day I could tell that he didn't like the reading I gave him.
I have had bought rebuilt's in the past and had some trannys r/r and it have been batting about 50/50 (not bad if in the majors) as to how well they work within a week.

I will let the gang know how it comes out !

I have another in the future that I have to get to, but now I think I will step up to the plate for this one.
Thanks wro87

If you're doing all the 'grunt' work yourself, you can get pretty nice 700-r4s from some of the speed shops and even some of the parts stores, pretty reaonable. A guy I worked for years ago, used to drain the torque converters , paint them and sell them as rebuilt, and instead of completely rebuilding , would just replace parts that usually wore out, and charge for 'complete rebuilds'.
Alot of builders have one or two trans. that their pretty good with, and everything else is 'hit and miss'. I suspect you found one of those.

What's the problem with so many rebuilt 700r4's having problems? Factory 700r4 can go 200k miles.

I've also read that the Corvette 700r4 is different than other 700r4's.

If You have the means, Rebuild Your 700R4 transmission Yourself.

I chose to rebuild my 87 vert trans earlier this year and 5,000 miles later have excellent results as Just as day one installed into my car and the 1st test drive.

Follow the Factory GM service manual step by step.

Research and Buy only Premium USA Manufactured parts for your transmission.

There are many internal upgrades you can make yourself for better durability. Or You can rebuild it stock. Choice is yours.

You will need special Kent Moore service tools to get the rebuild job done right the 1st time. They are all listed in GM Service Manual in the Auto Trans 700R4 section.

I found all the necessary Kent Moore Tools on Ebay, Many New in Original Shipping Packages.

Kent Moore factory service tools Can be had because of all the MANY THOUSANDS of GM Dealerships Closing Nationwide with this BAD USA ECONOMY.

I trusted no one but myself rebuilding my own Vette 700R4 trans.

I am an Auto Mechanic and have been for many years.

Takes knowledge, patience, and alot of TLC to get an automatic trans rebuild right the 1st time around and last 50,000 to 100,000 miles +.
