You would be better going to a wrecking yard and purchasing an original unmolested Delco unit from a low mileage wreck.
I installed a 92 alternator on my 86, and wow, nice change being able to get through a summer without an alternator change.
I did have to fabricate a rear anti vibration brace to replace the original one that didn't fit on the 92 alternator.

try new, not rebuilt. cheap rebuild: new brushes (least expensive part of an alternator); better rebuild: brushes and bearings (the three least expensive parts of the alternator). That still leaves the diode pack and the windings (specifically the insulation on the windings)...neither of which last forever and are the most expensive parts of an alternator. I suspect these are rarely replaced during a "rebuild". If a rebuilt alternator contains new diodes and windings, it will be prominently displayed on the box or accompanying literature.

REMY, the OEM supplier is the best, period.

Just remember, you probably had a lifetime warranty on the alternator. I think it's still best to buy a new one.

The alternator I got at autozone says 'Delco Remy Made in USA' on it.

Underneath that was a 'rebuilt in mexico' sticker or something of the like.

If anyone knows where to get a 'new' alternator vs. rebuilt, im all ears.
