Default 86 just died, need some help

I was just driving down the road and my 86 started to chug, gasping for air or fuel. It will run and idle but when I give it gas it starts to die, it won't rev up. I opened the hood, car off, and I can hear a hissing sound at the driver side fuel rail toward the back. It sounds like maybe vacuum leak or fuel still flowing. Would you hear either of these if the car was not turned on? I recently changed valve covers and to do so I popped off all the injector connections but they all look good. I also ohmed all injectors, they all came in around 16.2 to 16.5 , within specs. I drove around for a few weeks now with no problems, although my mileage went down to 15mpg from 17. lastly, when doing the valve covers, I broke the egr sensor connection on the egr pipe. can that cause any problems. I can't quite tell if the hissing sound is from the fuel rail, injectors, or the egr valve underneath. I will have it towed home so I am just looking for a place to start eliminating possible causes. I am not much of a wrench so it's quite possible I messed something up along the way. Thanks guys

sounds like your fuel pump died.
1. check fuel pressure.
2. check for spark. sometimes the dist. module goes bad. (remember it tells the computer that your engine is rotating and to turn on the fuel)
3. has the fuel filter been changed recently? if not, it could be backed up.
4. determine that you didn't get a slug of water at the last fill-up and the liquid
at the fuel rail is indeed all fuel, not water and fuel.

BTW,
Thanks for the brake pads. I don't know what kind they are, but the car stops great with them in place. The rear rotors are actually starting to show signs of wear!

I should have sent you the rotors I had. they were delco but probably not worth to ship. The pads, I think were wagner. I recently had the cap coil and rotor replaced and the timing set to 6 degrees. I changed the fuel filter last year. how do you check for water at the fuel rail? Thanks for the advice glad the pads work well
