Default TCC @ WOT Comparison.....

Just curious if anyone here has done a locked and unlocked converter comparison in the 1/4. I'm off to do one of my own here shortly at Rockingham. I'll post the results later today.

I've wondered how the lock up functions when turned off, will it automatically unlock to shift requiring you to lock it back up after every shift?

Andrew, on my '96 all the converter settings are done in the PCM/TCC settings. I can't address what happens with the older transmissions. When it's unlocked at WOT you'd never know it under normal driving conditions unless you floor it.

I lock my converter after the 1-2 shift on all my 1/4 mile runs. It's good for about .15-.20 in the quarter and 3 mph. I have a manual switch on the console and a 3 disk Precision Industries converter. It's tough on the 4l60e but I have it freshened up every year. Willie

Regardless of how it's controlled it may unlock for shifting. So if you program it to lock up for your drag run you may find it unlocked after a shift. Just so you know to look out for that. I'm not sure they can shift while locked up.

I record all my runs with a LM-1. The converter remains locked through the 2-3 shift. That is why it's tough on the trannys. Some racers will lock the tranny up in 3rd gear to avoid clutch wear.

Did my little comparison and all the best times I had were with it unlocked at WOT. That being said none of it is worth bragging about. 12.4 @109 was it's best. DA was 581. I guess I'm going to have to decide if I want to put 400.00 more in this thing or not for a dyno tune. My tuner has done his best but you can only do so much by mail order.

Here's a in-car if you guys care to watch. This was my last run of the day.
