Default Question about lug pattern

im having difficulty finding wheels for my 1984 corvette all the wheels im finding are typically 88+

is there a way i can swap my 84 over to the 88+ style bolt pattern that would allow me to upgrade wheels and brakes on my car?

Dude, It ain't the bolt pattern, it's the offset/backspacing that's different. The wheels will still bolt on.

I found the specs on the wheels I would like to buy.

Front 17x9.5 with a 56mm offset
Rear 17x11 with a 50 mm offset

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-p...the-forum.html

From what i have found on here my 1984 came with 45mm offset?

I would like to make sure before i purchuse that this additional offset wont make my car look like a mexi mobile or cause a rubbing issue

thanks for any help in advance

84-87 Corvette wheels had a 38mm offset. For the front wheel you want, you will need a 3/4" adapter to get the wheels to sit properly in the wheelwell The 18mm difference equates to 3/4". Without the adapter, the wheels will sit that 3/4" further into the wheelwell. The wheel will bolt on and depending on the tire you select, there should not be any rubbing issues. But that 3/4" difference will be very obvious when you look at it compared to the stock 16" wheel.

For the back, the 50mm offset should be OK given the extra 1.5" of wheel width. But you should check for clearance on the inside. Watch the parking brake cables and the suspension. Again, tire selection is important. If you use Sumitomo tires, the tread width will be narrower compared to other brands in the same size snd that can help with clearance issues.

Also keep in mind that finding tired in 315/35-17 may be problematic as the years go by. Right now there are only a few companies making that size. If you go with 17x9/5 wheels on all 4 corners, you can use the 275/40-17 tires which are widely available. And you will be able to rotate tires for longer tread life.

I put the wheels from my 96 on my 84 with out spacers and had no trouble. The fronts did sit in side of the wheel well a bit more but did not rub. On mine the 84 felt more like driving a regular car. I am not sure if it lost some handling, because I did not drive the car hard with them on.
