I'm overhauling a guy's fuel rail and, while I have it apart, thought that I would check the fuel regulator before putting the fuel rail back together. Is there anyway that I can do that to check the diaphragm to make sure that it is intact?
It's been a while since I replaced mine, but I'd think you could use a vacuum pump to see if the diaphragm holds. IMO, I wouldn't remove the cover unless you're replacing it.
The fuel regulator wouldn't hold anything let alone pressure. I had to buy the tamper-proof torx set but got a new fuel regulator and it works just great! Did have a problem with one the new O rings. It distingrated and I had to take the fuel rail off the car again and take apart the fuel regulator to clean it. After that the car started just fine. It had some hesitation before but now is running like a bat out of hell. Good times.

What o-rings did you use? Sounds like it best to avoid those o-rings if one disintegrated after a few minutes.

I got them from NAPA. They were supposed to be Viton according to the guy that I know and that is what the information said. All I did was put it on the end of the short tube that goes into the fuel regulator and tighten the screw. No turning or anything. That is where the fuel shot out like a fire hose. It had broke into several pieces and went into the fuel regulator. All of the others were okay. No clue. I had a slightly different one and used that one. No problems. Weird.

Did you put something like vasoline on the o-rings? That helps them slide. When I did mine on my L98, I noticed the regulator going in at an angle on the rail with the fuel tube in place on the regulator.
I lubed them up and put it on the tube and put it in. No issues. When I pulled it out, a good part of the o ring was missing. There was no binding that I could see because I could see all round the tube. Don't know what happened. Put back in another one and no problems. I suspect that the o ring may have had a slight cut in it and the fuel pressure did the rest.
