Not for the Corvette, but I figure there's as much expertise here as anywhere;
The clearcoat on one of my alloy truck wheels has lifted a little at the rim (suspect careless tire techs) and there's some grime leeching in under it. How should I clean it out and is there some non-yellowing gloop I could use to 'glue' the clearcoat down? I don't think the rim is worth sending out to recoat. Any input is greatly appreciated, as usual...

Re: Wheel clearcoat repair (rocketfinger)
I tried used using wheel clear coat from a spray can that I bought at Autozone and it is pealing off so don't use that. I even prepped it using sandpaper and cleaner to make sure it would get a good grip but it did not stick. Plus, some turned yellow.
I don't know of a cheap solution other than having it stripped and repainted using professional-type catalized urethane paint such as PPG Deltron or equivalant, which is expensive.

Yeah, I figure a DIY refinish is out of the question because the aluminum is going to oxidize under the clear, and off it comes. The stuff that's on there is really thick and somewhat flexible, like acrylic or something. It's not brittle at all, I can't think of anything off the shelf like it.
