I was going to reset my timing, so, as the book instructed, I disconnected the EST(Man was it hard to find, stuffed down below the distributer...don't know how I'll ever get it reconnected...), but now the car won't start....I get spark, because I can see the timing light light up, but no start. It started fine when I had the EST connected, but now it won't. I needed to set the timing because it had started to run a little sluggishly.......any help appreciated........ :bb
I'll take a stab at this one. Are you sure you unhooked the est wire?? The est plug is a single wire unit and on most of our cars it is more over by the wiper motor than under the distributor.
You probably disconnected the red wire near the batterey. I don't know what that's for, but it's a :nono: to disconnect. I did the same thing and my car wouldn't start either. The EST connector is to the left of the brake booster, tucked in the harness. It'll take a little effort to find but it's there.
If you used the official service manual it displays as the EST connector a bigger connector behind the distributor. I believe through this connector not only the EST signal but all electricity is routed to the distributor - hence no spark and no start if you disconnect it.
Like it was said the EST single wire connector is near the brake booster in a bunch of other wires. It is the only connector visible there.
My Haynes manual displays this correct connector. Wonder what they mean in the service manual???
