I need to change out my blown motor and I have several options. However, I can not find anyone who can program a crossfire chip. They will on the 85 but not an 84. Anyone know of someone who might do it?
I have three differnt bin files.
I know where the main spark table is, and the settings for TCC lockup speeds.
It is quite easy to change the ECM to a 7747 (late 80 - early 90 truck ECM ).
This can be done without modifying the stock ECM harness, so the stock ECM can be installed right back. You have to build a short adapter cable to install the 7747 ECM. The only bad thing is that you will lose the MPG readout on the dash.
that cam you listed is pretty tame, i wouldnt worry about the computer. What you need to worry about is an lsa of at least 112, the map sensor needs a good vacuum signal for proper operation. People have used as low as 110, they get a lope at idle, but the car still runs fine. the cam you listed is the same as the summit racing sum-k1102 112 lsa. It'll work fine, if your planning to run some decent heads i'd go up a step or two, but then you'll probably need to customize a chip.
heres kens email ken73@ken73.homeip.net
he'll get your account working. is it just your user account? or are you having trouble loading the page.
Yes the lsa on this one is 112. Funny you should mention heads the ones I am thinking about getting are the Edelbrock performers (I am going to get a crate motor). I think my biggest fear is not being able to rework the ECM (the comment from Jet). But it seems that even if the chip I have can't be re-programmed it would seem logical that I could buy another one and have it changed. I quess I should call the auto part store and look for availability.
Oh I did get into the crossfire board last night. I think I read about every post.
the best thing to do would be to step up to the 7747 ecm, it will respond much faster, and allow you to customize the chip for the engine. Any after market chip will just be a guess at best. Using the starter bin ken developed you get a closer guess, plus 100 times the processing power. And you can tinker from there.
