Maybe you can help me out real quick. I have a question about the passenger-side radiator hose tube. (On the radiator) I got rid of my old radiator already, so I don't have anything to compare my new one to.
Inside the large opening on my new one, there is metal blocking the hole into the tank, with only about 1/8" gap for water to flow.
Is yours the same or wide open? Thanks.
Yes, I just went down to the basement to look at the OEM radiator recently extracted from my '94 and it's just like the one in your picture -- very little clearance in there, but apparently designed that way.
I bought an OEM replacement radiator for my '94 a few years ago, and had the same question. The original radiator had no such obstruction. My car's a 6-speed. The factory-installed radiators in the 6-speed cars had no transmission cooler in them. The replacement radiators all have the transmission cooler installed. The cooler is what you're seeing, and despite the fact that it seems to be a major obstruction to coolant flow, I can confirm that my '94 runs nice and cool at highway speeds, so the flow must not be significantly compromised by the presence of the cooler.
