I'm gonna be running my car tomorrow until I either get into the 12's or I break something trying. I know it's possible, 111 MPH trap speeds, 13.0 times are too close, considering I run 2.1 60' times to get me to those numbers. I'm gonna try on my street tires, but I've got a set of E.T. Streets at my disposal.
Any special instructions for these tires. Obviously I'll want to do a larger burnout than my little "dust off" that I do on my street tires. Any ideas where I should launch, etc?
Re: E.T. Streets, any special advice? (Nathan Plemons)
I had E.T. Drags 26X10 last year. They definitely hooked better than a DR. Try using around 18-PSI to start with. Depending on 60' which should be very good with these tires(Pending track prep) that should be the right pressure to hook and still be smooth on top. If that doesn't cut it, try 17. I've spoken to a lot of Guys running these tires, and if you go too low, you'll be VERY mushy on the top end. A feeling I personally can't stand!
Do a moderate burnout, roll through the water...giving them a light spin to get them wet. Once the starter gives the OK, MELT 'EM for a good 5-6 seconds. Look in the mirrors to be sure both wheels are spinning. Feather it out of the water to burn off the excess....stage it, HOLD IT DOWN!!:D
As far as shift points go I've looked at all the dyno graphs and have determined that the way my motor pulls up to the redline I am best off to hold out as long as I can. There is no place that I can make more torque to the ground in the next higher gear, my torque curve doesn't fall off enough to allow that to happen. So I hold it as long as I can which happens to put me right about at the torque peak for the next gear.
Nathan, be careful with the ET Streets, I broke an axle last year using them, I would start with the pressure a little higher (Around 20 PSI) do a decent burnout and work on using a little more RPM on each launch. With your stock gears you are most likely gonna have to use quite a bit of RPM to launch without a bad bog. I would work on your radial tire 60' times a bit more, you should easily be able to see 1.9x on a set of stock radials. Try going around the water, back up right in front of it and do a good burnout (make sure you sit there till you have quite a bit of smoke) roll off the gas carry the burnout up to the line as close as you can with going over. If you are still running a stock clutch, you also want to be careful using the ET Streets. Good Luck, I hope you see your ###'s
As MVR 155 stated, be careful launching on those tires. They (along with most any decent slick) will find that weak point in your drivetrain via wheel bearings, half-shafts, u-joints, etc. That stated, you can just say screw it, and launch the crap out of the car like I did. I understand what its like to run 13.00 and so on, and its just a entirely aweasome feeling running that 12 sec. pass. Good luck, you'll be there
