Default Alt pulley bushing?

Hi guys,

I usually hang out in the C3 section, but I'm converting my engine accessory drives to serpentine, thought I'd have better luck in here!

I installed a March pulley kit (which looks awesome btw!), but the alternator pulley is about 3/8" too far back, out of line with the rest of the pulleys.

I am told that there is a bushing behind the fan and/or pulley which pushes the pulley out and lines it up with the rest.
Does anyone have any info on this?? Is this true? I've checked 3 different alternators (stock with v-belt pulley, and 2 Proform polished "one-wire" alts) and none of them have any kind of bushing that I can tell.

Is there one installed on stock serp alt pulley systems? Can anyone check for me?

If there is, is there a part number available? Or better yet, anyone have one they would sell to me?

I'm so frustrated with not having this together and this is the last part before putting the rest of the stuff together so I can drive the damn thing again!

I do remember a bushing, I think the March directions for my kit said not to use it. I cannot remember for sure though. Obviously in your case you need one. If I were you I would just pick one up at a local hardware store. I have a bushing on my water pump, IIRC it was fifty cents at Fleet Farm. I believe I used a 1/2" one and cut it down to fit exactly.

Go to your local rebuild shop and they will be able to help you out. It has to be the correct size or it will not hit the bearing right and will not let the alt turn.

Thanks guys, I didn't even think about a rebuild shop. Pretty sure they might have one here in Tucson! I'll give that a shot!

Try any parts house that changes pulleys on alternators they sell. Generally they will have a handful of spacers.
