Default 87 Engine Check Light Problem

My 87 is nearing the due date for the dreaded smog check and I have noticed recently that the engine check light does not come on now when the key is in the on position.
Other functions such as battery etc display but not the engine check light which is required.
Could it be the bulb or something else and how much trouble is it to remove the display panel?
Any help would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks,
Jim

Jump the A B terminals on the ALDL and see what it does.

Thanks Jack for your reply.
The problem is the engine check light does not come on when the key is in the on position.
Suspect the engine check light bulb is blown, now how do we get to it to see if it's good or not so that we can replace it?

Jim, the obvious problem is that that you didn't run the car at Sunday's et race. Race cars that aren't raced can develop quirky problems. Back to your question, to take the dash out, the center console cover must be removed, then the center dash panel removed and finally, the left dash panel removed. A small screwdriver is required to remove the headlight ****. After that, the instrument panel can come out by removing the 4 10mm head bolts. I can't remember if the upper dash pad needs to come out (it's been a few years), but I don't think so. Better to just find a smog guy that isn't too sharp. Willie

Thanks Willie,
At least now I have a idea on what is involved.
It looks like there is more to this than I had initially thought and probably more involved than the instrument cluster to replace the burnt out bulbs that we did awhile back.
