My trunk hatch release button works from the button inside the centre glove box, but not on the doors. I've tested the switches and also tried shorting out the plugs inside the door and nothing releases. Where abouts do I need to trace the circuit back to, to see why the door buttons don't release the hatch?
First, do the interior lights come on when you open the doors? If not, the courtesy light switches could be the problem. If they do come on, ground the brown wire into the door switches and see if that pops the hatch release.
In that case, the problem is probably with the courtesy light switches. You need a wiring diagram for your year car to troubleshoot them or you could guess that they are bad and replace them.
The switches in the door frame? That's affecting the lights coming on AND the trunk release?
Since the interior lights are not coming on, your car "thinks" the door is still closed.
If the car thinks the door is closed, the door switch for the rear hatch will not operate.

In my 87 when I disconnect the courtesy light timer , the door switches for the hatch release don't work
Obviously the power to the door switches is only available when the timer is working

That is why people go to the trouble of putting links up with correct info so you don't have to ask questions.
Should always read the posted links before continuing
